Overnight the 1st/2nd thunderstorms (severe at times)
affected many places especially in the south before
moving north during the day. Heathrow Airport received
46 mm early on the 2nd. The first week was generally
chilly and unsettled with fairly frequent outbreaks
of rain and thunderstorms. Low pressure moved to the
North Sea by the 6th and overnight 7th/8th some heavy
rain affected northern areas.
Although mostly drier and brighter from the 8th to
12th, the rather cold or cold theme continued with
Lincolnshire and East Anglia having many wet days.
After some more rain in the north and west the 15th
and 16th became mostly very warm and sunny with London
reaching 27 °C on both days. The generally warm sunny
weather (especially in the south-east) was curtailed
on the 20th as a cold front introduced cooler fresher
conditions. There were sunny periods over the region
with occasional showers (some thundery) at first.
Following some rain in places in the north on the
22nd and 23rd temperatures began to rise with very
warm values recorded during the 25th, 25 °C at
Prestatyn (Flintshire) and 26th, 27 °C at many places.
A thundery trough then moved in from the west introducing
cooler weather by the 27th. On the 29th a slow moving
front gave a very wet day over southern counties of
England with central London receiving 37 mm in 24
hours.
