England and Wales
Mostly warm and changeable. More unsettled in north-west, sunnier and warmer in south-east. Breezy start to 4th week with thunderstorms later.
Diary of highlights

The opening days were mostly very warm sunny and dry with Saunton Sands (Devon) reaching 25 °C on the 3rd. During the 5th and 6th rain affected western and central areas, while an active trough gave heavy rain in many places in the Midlands and in the north on the 7th.

With low pressure just to the west more unsettled weather prevailed from the 8th till about the 13th. In western, north-western and some northern areas outbreaks of rain and showers were quite frequent, Bingley (Bradford) received 44.2 mm in 24 hours on the 8th. The south-eastern and eastern parts of the region stayed mostly dry and generally on the warm side with long sunny periods.

On the 14th and 16th showers broke out over Lincolnshire, East Anglia and east Kent. During the night of the 17th/18th rain affected many southern and south-eastern parts. Some very warm temperatures helped trigger thunderstorms over parts of Sussex, Surrey and Kent later on the 19th and similarly during the 20th, with some affecting the Midlands at times.

With a low to the north the 21st to 25th was breezy and mostly dry with normal temperatures and good spells of sunshine especially in the south. A cold front gave rain and showers in the north and Midlands during the 24th.

On the 27th a very warm sunny day was followed by thunderstorms in southern areas that night which migrated northwards the next day. Again on the 29th after high temperatures in the south (Southampton reached 27.2 °C, highest so far this year) thunderstorms (some severe) broke out causing local flooding. Radlett (St Albans) received 38 mm in 24 hours. Following a chilly overcast day on the 30th, the month ended dry though mostly cloudy.
