Following on from my announcement on 21 April of my intention to step down from the post of Chief Executive of the Met Office, I have now agreed with Ian Andrews, 2nd Permanent Under Secretary at the MOD and chief adviser to Ministers on Met Office matters, that I will leave the Met Office on 15 July. This is somewhat earlier than I had previously envisaged, but reflects that we have been able to make better-than-expected progress in developing a devised strategy and corporate plan and for getting the Met Office into a position to implement them. These are the tasks that I had agreed with Ian Andrews that I would complete before moving on, and I have therefore decided to leave after the next Met Office Owners Council when I anticipate that the strategy and associated corporate plan will be endorsed. It has been a privilege to lead the Met Office during this period
of transformation, and I believe that I will leave the organisation
strongly focused and committed to meet the challenges in the future.
I would like to take this opportunity to relay again my personal thanks
to all Met Office staff for helping me to determine the new strategic
direction for the organisation and for putting in place a clear vision
and robust plan for the future. I wish the Met Office, and its excellent
people, every success for the future. David Rogers
