Met Office at the Boat Show

5 September 2005

The Met Office will be at the Southampton Boat Show — held this year from 16-25 September 2005 — previewing its revamped MetWEB online weather service for leisure mariners and promoting its established Marinecall services.

MetWEB is a comprehensive online weather shop designed to give leisure yachtsmen the complete weather picture at any time, day or night.

MetWEB's tailored one-off or subscription packages allow you to choose the information you wish to view, to fit your budget, be it observations, satellite images or animated five-day forecasts.

Users will see many new additions to the service including new wind, swell and wave charts. There are now more animations for longer time periods, more frequently updated forecasts and more forecaster-written products.

BBC weather forecaster Philip Avery will be joining the team on Saturday 17 September to answer questions from the public and discuss his experience of competing in the most recent Global Challenge yacht race. Philip was a crew member on one of the twelve yachts sailing the 'wrong way' round the world, in the race which finished in August after 30,000 miles and 10 months of sailing against prevailing winds and currents.

The Met Office will be exhibiting alongside the Hydrographic Office on stand A108 and is particularly pleased to be joining forces with another Government agency at such an event.
