13 June 2006 The UK's top temperature yesterday of 32.4 °C in London broke the record for the hottest 12 June day, contrary to some media reports claiming 'the previous record was more than a century old' (30.2 °C in 1897 in Scarborough). Met Office records show the previous record to be 30.6 °C at Bournemouth and also Cullompton (Devon) in 1925. Official records kept by the Met Office also show that the highest ever June temperature is 35.6 °C on 28 June 1976, at Southampton; a record shared by London on 29 June 1957 when Camden Square also reached 35.6 °C. In London the most recent hottest June day was 19 June 2005 when temperatures reached 33.1 °C.
