Improved maritime safety information launched

4 September 2006

The Met Office's new look maritime safety information is launched on our web site today. The pages are an improvement to the range of information available and are presented via more intuitive map-based navigation. The maritime safety information is published via our web site on behalf of the Maritime & Coastguard Agency.

Example of new inshore waters forecast

The routine issue of shipping and inshore waters forecasts are available via 'clickable' maps. This information is further enhanced by the real-time integration of sea-area gale warnings, and strong coastal wind warnings — as and when they are issued. The addition of the high seas forecasts and integrated storm warning service further enhances the site.

Those accessing the new pages on slower connections at sea are able to print a plain text version of the information. The changes are the first phase in a number of improvements being made to the web site over the coming months.
