The GRAS Meteorology SAF is a EUMETSAT-funded project to develop and run an operational radio occultation system responsible for delivering temperature, pressure, and humidity profiles in near-real time. The project also develops portable software products for numerical weather prediction models and carries out related research.

The GRAS SAF is led by the Danish Meteorological Institute (DMI), with partners the Met Office, the Institut d'Estudis Espacials de Catalunya (IEEC) and ECMWF.

Deliverables

The GRAS instrument uses radio occultation to obtain information about the atmosphere in the form of refractive index, from which temperature, pressure and water vapour pressure information can be derived. The SAF is concerned with the delivery of an operational radio occultation system for deriving profiles in near-real time and software products for numerical weather prediction models and for carrying out related research.

The Met Office provides a Radio Occultation Processing Package (ROPP) as well as some monitoring of the processed data.

Other satellite processing packages are available on the NWP SAF web site, e.g. for passive microwave and infrared satellite instruments.

Feedback form
Please use the GRAS SAF enquiry form to contact us with enquiries about the GRAS SAF, including requests for deliverables and to inform the GRAS SAF on specific user requirements.

Visiting scientist programme
A visiting scientist programme allows scientists from institutions that are not SAF members to participate in the activities of the SAF.
